Anyone have any thoughts on what they'll do with the coming Mach 1?

Performance increase...?

Change the front fascia...? (Personally, I like the fogs and hope they keep the same front end on the Mach 1.)

Scoops...? If so, what kind and how many...?

Stripes (I personally think they look cheesy on today's cars...but a solid Redfire Mach 1 tastefully done would rock.)

Ideas anyone...?

Another thread around here was discussing the lower valence on the GT, where the fake left and right portions were for air control or some crazy jibberish...

I think they know the fog lamps on the GT will HAVE to be different on Future S.E.'s, so the fake valence areas are for fog light applications on later models.

I could be wrong. (very rare )

Hey guys, hate to sound ignorant, but are they really planning on making the Mach 1 again? I sure hope so because i had a few chances to get an '04 Mach but passed on the hopes Ford would do either another Mach 1 or a Boss.

Yup, it's pretty much been confirmed straight from the horse's - no pun intended - mouth.

A Mach, Bullitt and Boss are to appear within the next two years, and at least one of those will happen in late '05, early '06, if I remember correctly.

Hmm, did I miss a post? Last I heard, those were on a list (along with California Special) of special editions that were being considered, but the only one that Ford had decided to go forward with so far is the SVT Cobra in 2006. Is there more information?

Problably see a 30-50 hp increase. Blacked out hood like the 69s (the front of the 05 does look like the 69 anyways). Shaker, and the mach 1 side stripe maybe. Also possible a new front bumper with a chin spoiler.

edit: All speculation of course.

Hey Joe, i was thinking the same as you. I must have missed an announcement from Ford or something. I tried to search the net with no results. Perhaps someone can kindly post a link or something along those lines to cement the "announcement"?

There was a post recently from someone here who works inside Ford (and has been traditionally very accurate) and he said that Mach, Bullitt and Boss were being planned as the first S.E. models to come out, and that the rollout would begin as soon as next year (2005).

This confirms what J Mays himself said a long time ago: that S.E. models would be rolled out with relative haste compared to years gone by.

KapitanGT doesn't work for Ford, he just has inside sources.

I posted this link to an Autoweek article a few days ago on this very subject:

http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=100913

It basically says that they haven't decided what the next SE it will be but there will definitely be an SE in 2006 to slot between the GT and Cobra.

EDIT: Dang Robert! You just beat me to it by three minutes!

30 - 50 bhp I'll take...blacked out hood I can do without. Shaker scoop I can do without, too. This is the wrong car for a Shaker, IMHO. Now the intakes from the 71-73, or the '70 Shelby...or the recent Stang concept - any of those would sizzle!

Are you listening Ford...?

Also, 30 to 50bhp more would probably make the '05 Mach 1 as fast as the current gen Cobra - so probably 0-60 in 4.5 or 4.6 seconds. Still neck snapping performance, and still enough to trounce an M3.

"We've got to look at Machs and Bullitts and Bosses," Lyons said, referring to storied special editions of the past. "We just have to decide which one we want to pull out of our hat first."

I don't think you can assume at all from that quote that Ford is planning on building each one mentioned. They are going to choose from those (as well as some others maybe). I highly doubt we will see a 2006 Mach 1.

I think the 06MY will see a stick and peal special edition maybe with the Cobra debuting possibly as a 2006 1/2 MY.

IMO, there will be a power increase in an 07 MY SE (possibly Boss or Bullitt).

I think this car has more than enough momentum to warrant an SE right now.

Also, ford will want to concentrate all its efforts into getting the Cobra right. This car is supposed to be going after the new vette and M3. I'm sure Ford really wants to be on top this time and we'll be in for a surprise.

I can't see the Cobra and a power upgraded SE in the same MY.

Dan, he does say "we just have to decide which one we want to pull out of our hat first."

My guess is they're all coming, but of course, they won't be all at once. I kinda doubt they'll do a Bullitt this soon. But you're right, could be the Boss will beat the Mach.

As to performance - the SVT Cobra (do we know yet if this will be an "SVT Shelby Cobra" by the way?) will have at least 450 bhp, so I see nothing wrong with a 350 bhp SE that can do 0-60 in four-and-a-half, while the new Cobra does it in probably four flat.
