At first when I saw the new grill I got a little upset - I don't have it on my 05 V6 and I won't spend outrageous amount to get one installed when it is available. Then I looked at the picture again and I realized: it's too much of a copy cat. I know that 05 has so many similarities to the retro car, that's why we love it so much. But this grill is a little too much for me. I think that new Mustang needs to have its own identity. What do you think?

I was hoping for a little less.....extravagance...Too much.
Just give us smaller fogs than the GT to distinguish them...I think they went a little overboard. I still like my own mod...

I like the new pony grille alot, I still prefer the GT's grille though, those are the ideal size proportion wise to go with the big ol' grille on the 05+. Classic Mustangs before '68, had narrower wider grilles, so small center lights were perfect proportion wise

Good point! Think I'll get the GT and avoid the debate...

I wish the 05 grille was completly black, take out the pony emblem , it will look BA.... The 06 pony package grille is way old looking, I think it detracts from the lines of the car; and is that chrome around the pony emblem? or just bright work? Anyway, two thumbs down from this V6 owner....

Way too much for me. While the '05 has strong heritage clues, I wouldn't call it straight retro. It has a much more modern feel to it (no chrome, high wheel arches, etc.).
The V6 pony package is way too retro and doesn't go with the rest of the car IMHO.
However, I do applaud Ford for giving more options. The more options, the better.
Now, lets bring on the GT-R taillights! ;-D

I get the impression that some believe this is how all 2006 V6 mustangs will look.
The great thing is, if you like the way the 2005 V6 looks you can still get that look in 2005. If you like the pony package better, then you can get that.
Now if Ford really want to take the pressure off the GT then put the new Duratec 3.5 liters in the pony package (approx 250hp).
Or if that's too close to the GT, then put a 3.0 Duratec tuned like the Mazda 6 (220 hp). My wife has one in her MPV and it's a smooth engine (makes the MPV get up and go too)

As I write this, the voting is at a 50/50 split. Good move by Ford to give V6 buyers the choice for 2006.
I like both looks. Seeing so much chrome on a modern car, though, does take getting used to. If I had waited to buy an '06, I would have ordered the Pony Package, mainly for the 17" bullitts and other suspension improvements.
On the other hand, I'm happy I have an '05 in Sonic Blue. While driving my car I only see the inside, and I already have mats with the silver pony embroidery, so it doesn't matter to me that I have the basic grille. I'll enjoy seeing the new Pony grille as '06 owners who opted for it drive by.
