What should i buy to rebuild trans?
Winter is only a few months away so the mustang will be out of the garage in no time. Last season I was having a lot of trouble with my transmission going into 1st and R. From a stop going into first was hit or miss and left me at a green light quite a few times. I'm looking into taking the transmission out and to a shop but before I do id like to know what parts I should get replaced. The Center force clutch has about 20,000 miles on it, and the MM cable has about 2,000 on it. Everything else as far as I know is stock. What should I get to rebuild the trans? Doesn't need to be a beast, the car doesn't have any major power adders to it. Just want a nice clean shift. 2002 GT 44,000 original miles. 5 speed manual Center force clutch, pro 5.0 sts, MM adjustable cable kit. Thank you!

I get that sometimes in my car. Does it get better as the car warms up? If so this is common with newer standard transmission cars because instead of using gear oil they use ATF fluid, which to me I have never quite understood... You can flush the fluid and check for metal shavings on the drain plug. Then put fully synthetic performance fluid in it which will protect from any damage. If the problem persists than it could be your synchromesh. To completely rebuild a transmission at a shop your looking at 1500 to 2000... Hope this helps. But honestly start with the simplistic things first. It's low mileage so I doubt that anything is worn to the point of needing replacement. Unless the car has been completely dogged on its whole life. Plus you have the pro 5.0 short throw. You gave up on smooth buttery shifts when you installed it. I have one too. They are great for track applications but they are heavy and stiff due to the shaft being longer below the fulcrum. When I have difficulties I simply put the car into another gear and let the clutch out enough to move the car an inch then I put it back in first. Or put it in first while you are still slowly rolling up to the light to stop.

Yea that sounds about exactly the same. What a pain though to have to do all that. I'll try the drain and fill iaw the tsb and if that doest work maby I'll try a new shifter.
