Tranny swap, fix, rebuild?
Tranny swap, fix, rebuild?
Hello! I have a 2002 mustang gt. I was told when I got it that it has a damaged 2nd gear synchro. Because of this I got a great deal but now I'm looking to fix it. So what happens is, every gear works great, good clutch, but I can only get from first to second if the Rpms are below 2g. Any higher and it will grind and not go in till the Rpms have dropped. Once in second everything is fine. That cars perfectly drivable but this is something I obviously would like to fix. But is it fixable? Or is it more cost effective to buy a 350 dollar used one from the wrecker? I feel I can install a tranny but have no experience in fixing them. Just looking for opinions! Thanks!

I'm not really sure if it can be fixed of not, but I will say this, transmissions are very precise in their build. If you haven't worked on them before, I'd be hesitant to do so, especially if it's a gear synchro.
