Is it too late?

I have a 2000 GT that I have been modding little by little over the years. However, I have always considered buying a supercharger and putting it in when I could handle it finacially. Now that I am in that position, I'm not sure whether my car can still handle the power. I have never pushed the car very far (just a little street race here and there), but I always wanted that thrill that I get out of speed. It was a daily driver for years before I got an 06 Eclipse (very nice car and a GT as well). The Mustang has been through a few clutches (slow learner plus one bad mistake a few years ago). I mapped out everything for myself in what I was going to do to the car, but the main question is whether my engine can handle it. I don't want to spend 10 grand to make the changes and then blow the engine. Here are the main things that I am going to do:

Supercharger (Vortech or Paxton)
Intercooler
New Pistons
New Rods
42lb Fuel Injectors
New Fuel Lines
Lightweight Flywheel
New Clutch

Remember, this is just a rough list off the top of my head right now, but that is pretty close to what I am going to do. Please help and thanx very much.

Mine is a 2000 and it is still like new, go for it!!

I don't know why you would need new fuel lines, you will need a SVT Focus fuel pump though.

The drivetrain should hold up fine as long as you dont run too much boost. The GT can hold up to quite a bit of power, so I dont think you will experience too many problems with the supercharger. People have been running Vortechs on the SN95 for quite a while, and they're pretty safe.

One weak link could be the T-45 trans, as it had some problems with large amounts of power. The T-3650, introduced mid-2001 is sturdier.

If you are planning on building the motor like that, just spend the money and get a shortblock from somewhere like VTEngines. That way you know its built well and then you can put your heads and all on. You can turn around and sell your origonal shortblock for a bit of money in order to recoupe some funds.

As far as your tranny goes, it will be fine if you stay under 500rwhp on street tires. If you are hitting the track alot and running on slicks or sticky tires, its gonna be the weak link. I pushed a pre-99 T-45 in the cobra on nitrous and slicks quite a bit and I was pushing around 450rwhp, 500rwtq and it held up great.

Just whatever clutch you go with, make sure to break it in per manuf. specs.
