good luck man. got an 04 now had a 00 and mom has an 03. never had any problems really. had a squeaky bushing in the front suspension on my 04. and had the iac replaced 2 times under warranty for the 00. other than that they run like tops, get pretty good mileage. id say try and talk him down as low as they will go. you can probably get them to come down some more

well i saw the black one today from the private seller. there was one little dent on the back bumper (not even a dent really, just needs a little paint i think) but other than that the car was in good condition and ran really well. this was the 5 spd with only 50k miles. an older couple is selling it. it used to be their sons car when he went to college but he moved out a while ago and its been in the garage since (about six months). his dad has been driving it a little since then. i didnt make an offer because i still wanted to go look at the silver one.
i got to the dealer's lot and there was nobody there even though they told me they would be open from 8-12. i did get to see the car though and its got ALL the options. leather, mach 460, traction control, automatic. it has 66k miles and theyre asking 8995 which is already a good deal.
im going to go drive the silver one hopefully tuesday. after that ill decide which i like better and see what kind of deal i can get on each. hopefully neither gets sold over tommorow or monday.
basically the good thing about the black one is that its from a private seller, so probably less and it has a lot less miles. but it has a cloth interior and its a 5 speed. im still learning to drive stick...i still need a lot of practice so i would kind of prefer auto. the silver one is loaded with tons of options and its already at a good price but its got 66k miles (16k more than the black). so we'll see...
EDIT-the black one also has the standard 16 inch wheels and the silver has the 17 inch ones. 16 inch wheels on a gt seem a little strange since thats what theyre using for the v6 ones in 2004. anyone here drive a gt with 16's?

well not too much of a difference except for the fact that one is 16 inches and the other is 17. as far as appearance the 16s are just basic silver rims with like the 5 spokes connecting to a circle in the middle. kind of hard to describe but theyre pretty basic. the 17 inch ones are the ones that dfhurleydude has on his stang...theyre silver-ish and are like 4 spokes i think. i like the 17s a lot better.

I am the owner of a 99 gt 5 speed with 132000 miles on it and all it has cost me for non wear and tear items is about $400. It is a daily driver and is the most reliable car I have owned.

The "Limited Edition" option had better looking wheels than the standard GT. They were polished and had charcoal painted inserts.

My 99 GT had 16" rims.... only bad part about 16 is the speed limiter is set to 120mph.
kinda stinks cause i would end up hitting the limiter getting on the highway sometimes
There were many times where i needed to go faster but couldn't.
A new computer chip or dyno tune can fix that though..
It was lame racing my buddies Z28...my car stopped at 120 while his goes up to 155+....
And on reliablity.... my GT saw 62000 miles before i sold it... only thing that ever was done to it was brakes and tires....And i beat the crap outta that car!

wow glad to hear about the reliability...on the other hand it kind of stinks to have the speed limited. but at the same time i think that might be best...i dont really wanna be tempted to go over 120.
now an update....
i get a call from the dealer with the silver gt that i wanted to drive but couldnt since the lot was closed. he blamed me for not knowing they would be closed on a holiday weekend although they are normally open saturday. this makes no sense since i told him last monday "i want to come up this saturday, what are your hours?" and he told me 8-12 on saturdays. anyway i told him i still wanted to drive the car but didnt feel like driving another hour up and back if he wasnt willing to work on the price (car is listed for 8995.) he asks "well like what?" so i told him i didnt want to spend too much over 8000. he simply says "ill pass" and hangs up.
cant believe the ignorance...this isnt a ford dealership btw its just a used car lot. i can see getting upset if i offered him like 6000...but come on...is it really that offensive that i offer a little over 8000 when its listed at 8995? i dont think so...
anyway i found a 99 red gt near me on autotrader...61k miles, leather, 5spd. listed at 9900 and blue book value is 8100. im gonna try to get in touch with the guy about it tommorow.

The dealer sounds like a real Dumb-Hiney guy, hmm, for the money you might be able to get a older GT, they are a dime a dozen and u could mod it up to newer specs for the money of a newer one... just a thought

i've got a '04 GT w/ about 19k on it and its mint. runs great
all my friends have mustangs ranging from 87's to 04's and none of them have complained about reliabilty at all.
from my experience and my friends experiences, the Mustang is built pretty solid.

i bought my car july 3 2004, with 45k miles on her. now shes got 58k, yeh i drive a lot, and ive had a couple problems. but small ones, like IAC and my Mass air flow both went. As weird as it sounds, my exhaust went around 52k miles. The pipe right after the right side cat rusted out and disconected. But its cool...just the excuse i needed cause now i got a borla cat back. But still out of all the people i knonw with mustangs, im the only who's exhaust went like that so early on. oh yeh and then some obvious stuff, like i need new shocks and struts, new rotors, but this will be the first time they've ever been changed so... I say good luck man, this car is a beast and i love mine.

I used to own a 1999 GT and had it form 25000 miles til 61000. These cars are bullitt proof. Mine was a 5-speed so i don't know about the autos. But as long as the car is maintain correctly it should be able to go 200000 miles without any problems.
My current car a 1998 Grand Prix GTP has 163000 miles and runs perfect.
if a GM can go that long a Ford will do it easly.
