Sounds and looks by the oil that the engine did suck in water, and hydrolocked. You most likely have a bent rod and shattered piston at the least. Seen in lots of times and that oil is a dead give a way. You're gonna have to have a complete engine rebuild, and probably some machine work on the block and heads

I work at a machine shop so it'll be whatever they charge an hour and the job to do it. Like line bore, cylinder bore if necessary, surface grinding and the heads themselves three way valve job check the valve seats. I love working on the heads.

I recommend you rebuild it yourself and get the machine work just done by a pro

Since the engine will need a rebuild you might as well go ahead, and forge the bottom end. That way you'll know that the engine will be able to handle anything you throw at it, be it a supercharger, turbo, or nitrous.

before you go for a rebuild drain and replace the oil and see if it gets better. depending on the level of knocking if could have be ceasing from the lack of good lubrication. based on that year it may have been the rear driver side lifter and cam which gets the least amount of oil. If it goes away your lucky. I am sure some damage may have occurred but it may buy you some time for replacement costs.

Never had to open my 2003 up. They may not be the traditional pump up type lifter but there has to be some kind of transition from the cam to the spring. I am more old school engines and not completely up to date on the new engines as far as the strange changes or differences in nomenclature for some the internals. Just hoping to help save the guy some money in case he does not need an engine rebuild right now. My apologies if I mis spoke on this one.

I think I read somewhere that you changed your oil, but I'd say donut again. When I ported and polished my intakes I didn't think about draining my coolant. So I was in big trouble after it sat up for a month and I restarted it. Luckily I changed the oil twice and now it's back to normal. It was a very hard start up. Almost didn't make it

The DOHC 4.6 has what looks like roller rockers that follow the cams and press on the valves. Every single case of a car sucking in water from the CAI, I have seen results in a bent rod and either a cracked or shattered piston.
