if i get new cams i'll have new cylinder heads so thier clearing wont be a problem, but how much lift can i run without any piston/valve clearance issues?

I believe all of the aftermarket cams stay at a .550 lift for modulars. You will want to check with a cam manuf. on what they offer and specs they have. Comp Cams and VT Engines are both very reputible makers for the SOHC 4.6

Im going on a limb and saying its gonna be at least $800 in labor from what I have seen in most shops. A 4.6L headpull and replace isnt a pleasing task.

PM svopaul. im sure he'd be glad to help you. but its gonna be up there. anderson ford motorsport makes a tool that keeps you from having to remove the front engine dress. but i can imagine its not the easiest tool to use

how hard of a job is it, do you have to do any valve work or anything or is it just a pain in the...bolt in? because my father and i are pretty handy with a wrench we just arnt professional...if its a metter of pulling parts off then we could do it but aligning the cam is what gets me, becuase i dont want any valce-piston clearance issues....i've been thinking about putting a stroker kit on it ( mainly for the forged internals the added ci's are just a big bonus) would you guys suggest just waiting and doing the stroker kti at the shop at the same time as the head/cam swap?

You have to pull the heads off the car, which involves removing hte front timing cover (the entire size of the engine). Depending on the cams, stange 1 can usually use stock springs and valves, but anything bigger, I would defintely suggest new springs, as valve float is a possibility at higher RPM's. Talk to the cam manuf. and they can give you a better details on what is involved with teh swap.

If you are doing a stroker kit, just wait and do it all at once since you will have the motor out anyways. I've pulled a head off a 00 gt and it isnt fun.
