The ignition switch on my 95 GT no longer has definite positions for OFF and ACC. When you turn the key off, the switch doesn't lock into position like when new. It's not really a problem, but often I'll pull the key out to leave the car, and when I open the door, the audible chiming starts like the key is in the ignition. The chiming stops when I move the ignition slightly (without the key in it) to the proper OFF position.

It won't start or anything like that without the key, but I wondered if this sounds like the ignition switch might need replacement. If so, is that a tough job to do, or expensive?

It does. There is also the possibility of contacts wearing off and that can make you car cut off at times.

I can actually pull my key out at anytime...even while running. will this get worse? I kind of like being able to leave the car running, take out the key and lock the doors.
