Fuel Leak

My 01 GT has a leak in the fuel filler tube. Does anyone know if i have to drop the tank to fix it and if i have to go back to the dealership to get a new tube? Any info would be helpful Thanx

The tank will probably need to be dropped. Theres a grommet on the tank where the filler tube goes, you need to replace that whenever you drop the tank. That also might be where your leak is coming from if its dry-rotted or anything.

I had to replace the rubber gasket thing on my 97 a couple years back. You have to drop the tank but its not too difficult

the whole tank doesn't have the come out, just drop the right strap and loosen the left one, pull the bolts out of the neck plate some the neck can drop down and you should have enough room to pull the down tube from the tank grommet, Don't forget the blow the dirt away from the down tube and grommet before you pull it out and spray some WD 40 on the grommet to make the removal easier.

Definitely shouldn't. If you take the next out of the tank, you have to replace the grommet.

Floor jack helps to keep it up so you can let it down easy. Watch out for the fuel pump connection to the fuel lines, as they can corrode and become weak, and the next thing you know the tubing exiting the tank snaps, especially if that tank comes down out of control.
