Hi guys. Looking for a little help from the collective wisdom of the forum. I've got a 99 GT w/ manual trans that's basically stock. I've got a general engine question which is why I posted here instead of the specific SN95 V8 section. My engine has developed a problem of having zero low end power. It starts to chug hard if I'm cruising down the road at 60-65 in fifth and need to climb a hill. I'll have to shift down to 4th. It will barely accelerate at all until I'm at 2200 rpm's. I'm not throwing a code and the CEL isn't on. It doesn't feel like an ignition problem on one cylinder because it's chugging so hard. I'm leaning more toward a sensor on the throttle,, cam, crank etc. but I don't know. I've cleaned the MAF sensor, throttle body, installed a new air filter, and new spark plugs. Let me know what ideas you guys have. Thanks for the help.

 

 

Perhaps, I've got about 13,000 miles on that filter, so you'd think it would still be good, but it's a cheap thing to try.

 

Yeah, I would not expect it to clog in just 13,000 miles.

 

I would do a compression check. I don't know the specs for your engine, but I would expect at least 120 psi and all cylinders should be within 10% of each other. If compression is good I would look at the catalytic converters. One or both may be clogged. Bad plug wires usually cause the same type of hard ignition miss as a bad plug.

 

And just for giggles, while you changing out the fuel filter you may want to clean your MAF, and throttle body. Can't hurt. Good luck.

 

I would also suggest cleaning the throttle body
