As you can tell by the topic title I am a newbie to the world of the mustang. The only car I know a bit about is the 2005 gt but as I am a college student it is a little out of my league for now. So I went and talked to my used car dealer and told him to find me either a 94 or 95 gt. He's pretty good at finding pretty much anything.

So I come to you all asking what, if any major/minor differences there are between these two cars.

Thanks

Minor differences really. Aside from the added part on the ground effects behind the front wheel, they are the same on the exterior.
Wheels choices were the same, engines were the same, trannies, seats, etc.

Anyone else know of anything?

Alright thanks.

Now I'm wondering what kind of performance I can expect from one of these. Plus any mods that you guys deem "essential" to improve the 215 HP powertrain.

Also Iris Metallic was dropped for Sapphire blue in 95. As for mods starting out with starter stuff would be changing the upper and lower intake, larger TB, changing the final gear ratio (3.23, 3.55, 3.73, 4.10- many to chose from depending on what your application is), more aggresive exhaust, SCT tuning chip, K&N air filter and so on.

To start though IMO I would go with an SCT tuning chip and K&N airfilter. Combined that will run you about $350 I think and give you a decent 15-20 hp gain. Plus you can do it yourself, easier since your in college.

I know this may be a lotta questions but as I said I'm pretty new to this whole gig. Where would be the best place to get these items? Tuning chip, airfilter, gears, etc for cheap.

Well those will give you the cheapest/most gains off the bat. But exhaust is definitely the best mod you can do to your car at first. Really makes driving a lot more fun.

Has anyone here heard of any severe problems with these years or any reason that someone might want to avoid the mustangs from these years?

Yes, the 94-95 Mustangs had computers that were different from the foxes, and they have issues with minor mods such as if u change the cam or put on a blower etc. You can ethier get a 89 GT computer or get a engine management system, or i think their is a way to flash or tune the cars current computer so it will accept more mods.

www.bamachips.com has great prices on the SCT chips. Try and contact Scothew, he may be able to get you more info on them. He is the one who recommended them to me.

If you want biggest bang for your buck mods, get a nitrous kit. Cant beat 150 rwhp for around $400.

Gears are good, but with the 5.0, dont go above 3.73's if you ever plan to make a good bit of power. Unless you just want to do some 1/8 mile racing then by all means go for 4.10s or 4.30s.

As far as the intake, it will net you a couple of hp by itself. You will only see a really good benefit from an intake if you change the heads, and cam at the same time. The stock e7 heads are so restrictive that even if you increase the flow through the intake, it is still going to get bottle necked at the heads.

There is a recall on the fan, but by now any car you find from that era will have had it fixed. Other than that I'm not aware of any major problems with these cars.

I would go for a cat-back exhaust system and then an intake. Chec with your state emmision regulations and you may be able to drain your cats which you will like, trust me.
