I cut the springs on an 05 to lower, can the same be done on and 04 G?

 

I was under mine today and it looked like you could cut the rears and get away with it. I have no idea about the fronts. I will tell you I have been looking around for springs for my 2k vert and seen them as cheap as 100 bucks. They were falcan springs.

Cutting the rears a little bit seems to have no ill effects on the new cars, don't know about cutting a strut coil though, as the bottom two have vastly different angles to each other. I would spend the ~$150 bones and buy some name-brand springs if I was going to take the whole car apart though. The 4-link rear is more fussy then the 3link on the 05+ as the spring sits on the control arm. Its not worth having to go back and do it all over again when it comes to springs, its not like you put an emblem on you didn't like.

 

from what ive known, you can cut either the front or rear spring on any mustang since they are linear rate, but dont cut more than 1 coil. if you cut more, you are negatively affecting the spring rate, which will make your car bounce a lot. you should NEVER cut progressive rate springs, however. i agree with the posters above me tho, you should buy some lowering springs because it will lower your car and how you want it and will stiffen up the ride a little, make it handle better

 

Like the above posters have said, as long as the springs are linear rate you can cut them, but it really isn't recommended. If you do though, don't use any method, like an acetylene torch, that will produce a lot of heat, as the heat can warp the metal and wreck the spring.

 

If you do cut use a sawzall or a cut off wheel

 

Just pony up the cash for a set of FRPP "C" springs. They are great and can be had for like 125-150 bucks. I wouldnt cut the springs just in the off chance you ever need to go back to stock.
