Cats
Cats
I just joined & have just bought my first Mustang, a 2000 GT 4.6 Windsor SOHC. Everyone seems to have an opinion but nothing concrete. The question is can I remove the front or rear cats w/o causing the ECM to mix fuel/air improperly & should I use MIL eliminators. The question I know is general @ best. Maybe I just need an education on the subjecy. Thanks.
Welcome to TMS!
A Windsor 4.6? You mean a Modular 4.6?
I'm the OEM nut around here - I usually leave things *as is* unless it really bothers me.
There are plenty of knowledgeable cats around here; sound advice to follow soon...

Yes, a modular 4.6. I said Windsor as opposed to Romeo. So far I've learned that there are some differences in the 2. I am trying to learn the system & consequences of altering any part of it. The system is a far cry from my LS motor. The LS is basically a small block ford anyway but the engine management system is a bit different. Thanks.
Removing the cats wont do anything in terms of mixing air and fuel. The biggest thing you see is unused fuel going out the tailpipes because the cats didn't collect it. No big deal though. As far as MIL eliminators, if you want don't care if your check engine light is always on (like mine) then you don't need them. Or you could get a tuner instead to turn off the CEL.
