Can you fit a 390 or 428?
Is it possible to fit a 390 or a 428 in the 94-95 body cars? and what kind of manual tranny will work with it? Do you know where you can get parts? I really the FE series of Engines..
Thanks

Are you building a track car?
While it sounds like a cool idea, unless you have one of these motors laying around laying around whats the point? You can get some very good 4.6-5.0 crate/factory motors out there that will not only perform just as well but be more fuel effecient.

No track car, just a fun driver.. I hate to the same.. I have never seen one.. I do have a 390 that can be used.. If I am going to build a mustang fuel economy is not going to be on my mind, Power is... My first plan was a 5.0 with the Kenne Bell, but I don't know..

I like the 428 idea.

Why screw around with an old FE?
Drop in a FRPP 385 series 460 CID crate motor. It will fit and you'll get far more HP than from any FE, bigger bore and much better breathing heads and these days 385s and parts for them are more available than for old FEs.

I worked on and built a lot of FEs back in the day. Unless you have one sitting in the back of your garage, there are better options these days.
What's your objective, if it's just to do something different I suppose an FE will fit the bill.
If you're going for power you need to go with a 428 block so you can use the Cobra-Jet heads with the big valves. The valves in the CJ heads won't clear the smaller 390 bore. I've been out of FEs for a long time, 20 years so I don't know what the parts situation is today. I know you can buy replicas of the holy grail of FEs, the 427 side oiler, but an aftermarket FE will set you back a lot of $$. A 427 block with a 428 crank will make a 447 CID monster motor, but by the time you're done with it you will have spend a lot more $$ than going with a 460.
If you can find the parts cheap I guess it's worth it, but these days I would not drop a lot of my hard earned $$ into buying FE stuff.

I do have one i can put in there its a 390, i wouldn't leave it a 390 i would bore and stroke it out. I just was looking for ideas. i have a cousin that thinks his mustang is so awesome. and i wanted me to do the same thing he did with a 429. but i don't want to be the same as him and want to beat him with a something off the wall not seen. i have seen some edelbrock heads for them, but i dont know for sure how awesome they are. I do agree that i would have alot more money in it than going with a 385 series blocks. but you see them everywhere. Just a crazy idea i thought i would throw out there.

The 390 is probably the worst platform you could start with. Limited after market parts and expensive. The 5.0 is so flexible as far as what can be done with, and the outrageous power it can make. And talk about after market parts...TONS and all reasonably priced.

I really don't think the goal here was to make the best performing car around, or at the best price. It was to build something different and cool.
an FE or other older motor under the hood of an SN95 would be refreshing to see, not to mention freaking awesome
