Years ago my cattle truck's fuel tank leaked. I took the tank to a radiator place. They not only boiled it/cleaned it out but they patched it by pouring what looks like a green epoxy inside. The inside is completely coated. Worked great and wasn't very expensive.

I've never seen a tank repair work outside of what Charlie is suggesting. Well not without extensive preparation and it never seemed to last.

Or replace the tank (http://www.gastanks.com/1983-86-Capr...uctinfo/F-12B/ - 125.00)

The straps can be reused as long as they are in good shape (never really seen them fail other than rusting out). Also if your fuel pump relay is in good shape and if the pump has a lot of miles on it the pump is most likely the problem. Especially if you run the tank down to E a fair bit.

Fuel cools the pump and in the process if you run the tank low the pump will run hot and cook the fuel leading to varnish on the motor and causing the pump to fail.

My brother used to be in the auto parts business and he told me about that, a lot of the reman fuel pumps they sold were just put through a cleaning process to get the gunk out of the motor then boxed right back up. If the reman company had to do much more than that they just trashed the fuel pump.
