I was planning on getting an 05 gt, but as of yesterday, I have decided to go with either an 03 or 04 mach 1. I plan on getting an automatic, and that's where the problem is. I'm from the San Antonio area, and I've had quite a few local mustang drivers telling me that the automatics in the 03 and 04 machs are no good. Apparently they have heard that they are sluggish, and that they don't shift well. I've searched online for anything verifying this, and can find nothing, but just wanted to check before I go out and invest. I would greatly appreciate and info.

Hey SAN ANTONIO!!!!!!!!!!

That's where I'm at right now!

I asked a few of the guys about Mustangs in general and more people had automatic transmission problems than the manuals. Check the topics Durability or Mustang Repairs in this and 2005 forum.

Remember in a manual you control the shift points rather than the car, so of course the autos will be sluggish. You'll get better milage, and manuals are cheaper. And IT'S A MACH 1.....you gotta go manual.

If you can't drive stick....goto a Dodge dealership......act interested, tell them your problem, and mess up the Dodge's clutch.

Go to www.mach1registry.com, and do some searching in the forums. There are some guys going real fast with Auto's. Also Hemming's Muscle Car Magazine (Not sure of exact title of magazine) tested a Mach 1 auto and got 14.0 in the 1/4 mile @~103.xx.

The auto Machs do shift better than GTs (auto). The back end will step out on the 1-2 shift. (According to the magazine mentioned above.)

Hope this helps.

Not to sound stupid, but what do you mean, "The back end will step out on the 1-2 shift."

Sorry. Didn't mean to do that. What I wanted to ask was what did you mean when you said the back end steps out on the 1-2 shift?
