First of all i have been reading the forums for almost a year and finally decided to join and post. Im on my second mustang (and probably not the last). I was messing around with the vin number decoder on ford fleet web site and when I put the vin no. on my 2003 gt, it said the 4.6L engine was rated at 225hp. Has anyone else tried this out, or maybe this a misprint. Thought it was supposed to be 260hp.

Hello and Welcome!

I've never tried that vin number decoder. You're right about having 260hp. Not sure what the problem is.

The 98GT was 225 and that is the only year with that rating that I know of. The 96 and 97 GT's were 215.

A vin decoder can't tell you ponies bro. Plus maybe cause it was the fleet website, it registered different? go to www.cars.com and click on research then hit up your mustang from there. It will tell you the true specs and OEM equipment.

Maybe the site is qouting rwhp? 260 minus the 15% drivetrain loss for a 5 speed would equal about 221 rwhp.

Could be a misprint or it is rwhp. My '02 GT base line run stock in a manual put out a really good 230-235 rwhp. But the your '03 GT definitely has 260hp to the flywheel.
