My car is driving me crazy!!!

I have a 1994 Mustang V6 and it drives me crazy around every corner with these little irritating things that I tried to do DIY stuff on, but cannot figure out. I do not want to have to shell out money for a professional to handle, but I just might....
  1. Tail lights do not work, but brake lights work.
  2. Front and rear turn signal do not work. Turn signal relay and turn signal switch have been replaced
  3. Gauge cluster needles work sometimes and sometimes they do not. They don't work more than they do.
  4. Gauge cluster lights do not come on when the headlights are on, but they come on if I push the headlight **** in a click, but at the point the headlights are no longer on.

This is all so crazy... Any ideas from the Mustang Gurus?!?!

your tail issue could be tied in with with a bad headlight switch. I'm going with this since you have no dash lights unless you fuss with the headlight switch, it sounds like there is an issue with contacts inside the switch or a broken/bad wire. you need to check the switch and the wiring. once you fix that known issue and still no tails start working from the switch out to the tails checking for power.

You may have a bad multi function switch on column causing the no blinkers, check for power/function going in and out of the switch.

the gauge cluster could have faulty gauges, loose/bad contact with main connector or bad/failing strip that runs on the back of it. kinda looks like a grid in a plastic strip, of the contacts are broken or strating break they with act funny. you will have to remove the cluster to check.

Headlight switch. Plastic plug and or wiring may be damaged as well.

I have a wiring diagram, thanks a millions... It all looks like French to me, but I guess I have to start somewhere. Should I just start with a new headlight switch or should I try to see if there is a short or something first?

Check the wiring/plug for the headlight switch. If that is okay then it sounds like a dead spot in the switch, most likely it is bad. I had no blinkers on my stang and chased it bck to my multi function switch ( blinker stalk on the column) not saying is going to be it but it is part of your testing ( also for headlights ).

I changed the Turn Signal Switch already, but I think I will try the headlight switch. If that does not work I may need to change the harness it plugs into, which will require me to cut out the old and splice in the new harness, right? Thanks...

only if the plug itself is bad. Most likely the switch is bad the way you described how you had to play with it. you are going to have to test the wiring for the turn signals. testing for power along the route.
