I have a 2004 Mustang (3.9 auto). It has been in and out of the dealership 5 times (with the same problem) in the last 2 months, and it's going back again next week. By all means I am no mechanic, so i'll explain this the best I can. When I turn left (yes only left), there is a clicking noise in the front end. It doesn't do it all the time, only at a certain part of turning. I know it's not the tire rubbing the wheel well, it doesn't make the noise when I turn sharp corners. It does it when the top of the steering wheel is at about 9:00 (hope that makes sense). Kind of sounds like a broken axle, but I know that's not possible since I have rear-wheel drive. According to the dealership, there hasn't been a recall but then again they have also assured me that it was fixed everytime I picked it up. Has anyone else had this problem? At this point, any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated! THX!

How many miles do you have on the car?

Since the dealer "insists" the car is "fixed" when you pick up the car, request having a service writer or mechanic ride with you. Don't just take the vehicle around the dealership lot, go out over varied roads (side streets and maybe a short jaunt down the highway). If the noise should re-appear during your drive, insist they resolve the problem, especially if it's under warranty. There's no reason for you to have to repeatedly bring the car back for the same problem.

Perhaps bad bearings? But in a car so new, I just don't know.

I too have a 2004 3.9 V-6......looks from your photo you have the pony package. Nice!

I hope the dealer is able to resolve this issue for you soon.

Currently I have a little over 31,000 miles (yes I travel often). As far as making a service writer ride with me, they actually already have. That was the 4th time I brought it to them with the same problem. Took the service writer to a nearby parking lot, did a few 360's to let him hear the noise. At first he had a confused look on his face, then proceeded to say that is was (again I am not mechanically inclined) some sort of cable that had to do with the axle or the frame??? :bang:

Good eye! Thank you, it is a pony package, i'm very proud. You can't see it in the pic, but it also has 2 (instead of the usual 1) black racing stripes that run over the top middle of the car. Really sets it apart from the rest!

Clicking noise when you turn? Sounds like your turn signal.

 

Aloha. Try checking your front lower control arm bushing.

 

Sounds like a balljoint.

I have a 2004 Anniversary 3.9L and it was making that same exact sound on the drivers side. I finally took it in to get the front suspension checked out. It was either between these four things that got repaired:
Rack & Pinion Mounting Bushing
LF Lower Ball Joint
RF Lower Ball Joint
Outer Tie Rod End.
After these repairs were done, no more knocking sounds coming from driver side.
