5.0 in 98
5.0 in 98
If I decided to take out my 3.8 and put in a 5.0, what year should i use??? where would i find that engine at... actually where would i find good prices and engines for my year anywanys..
A 5.0 out of an 87-92 Fox would get you forged pistons from the factory, the 93's had hypereutectic pistons. You could try a junk yard or look for someone who is parting one of them out.
I don't blame you. The 5.0 is a simpler engine to work on (ie 1 camshaft instead of 2 or 4), plus mods aren't terribly expensive for them. My best friend had a 5.0 Cobra... man that thing was sick. It's the reason I ended up buying my Cobra, although I opted for the newer 4.6.

I'm sorry, but after jumping ship from my old 5.0 into a 4.6 I don't understand the want for the old pushrod anymore. Yes, it's easier to mod, but you can dump almost a grand in engine mods (like me...) and still have less power than a stock 4.6. Given that the 4.6 I have is a PI motor, unlike the 96-98 variants, but regardless. I've been turned to the mod motor side, and I am not looking back.
If I were you I would look for a motor out of a 96 Explorer. The motor should be perfect since it will come with GT40 heads and intake, so you will be at the top end of what the stock 302 would produce. Also it comes with OBDII which should make it much easier to tie into your gauges. Another thing you may need to worry about is the transmission. I don't know what the 3.8's used, but the 94-95 GT T-5s used a mechanical speedometer gear, while later ones I believe used an electronic speed sensor.

Edit: http://www.ehow.com/facts_6875929_20...formation.html , I thought they stopped in 04, but I guess the T-5 was only just decommissioned.
