Has anyone here run the Ford Racing Y-303 heads with the E-303 cam and Edelbrock Performer RPM intake on an carborated 5.0? The Ford tech says that this combo would work best as apposed to the Performer Plus manifold I was thinking of running. I'm sure it will but Edelbrock advertises the Performer Plus as a EGR emission legal manifold but the RPM as non-EGR. Should I sacrifice a little top end horse power with the Performer Plus, or do I risk an emission fail with the RPM. Let me have your opinons guys.

I'm running that exact combination. However, emissions aren't a concern in a 65...

I can tell you that it runs well.

I'm running the FRPP Cobra 5.0 shortblock. Had plenty of P/V clearance - .140 & .130 IIRC.

i would go with the emissions legal set up unless you are making your car a racetrack only vehicle.

Thanks guys. That sounds like a great setup Clone. (For a 65 2X2 .... Or should I say Shelby). I've had a couple older Mustangs with the 289. Great engine but I think I like the 5.0 better.
I know what your saying Conv Stang. However, the Performer Plus manifold is going to sacrifice 15 to 20 horse from the RPM which means I am not using these heads to there capabilities. D%&# Government. Im thinking about an EGR adapter plate that fits between the manifold and carb. Maybe thats all I'll need.

Thats just it. I don't think there is that big of a difference (At least as far as emissions go). Performance-wise the RPM allows for more horse power at higher RPM's. Sitting them side by side there isn't much difference except for the rise in the RPM. I think the only thing that makes the Performer Plus manifold legal is the EGR adapter (between the carb. and manifold). I don't see why I can't use the same adapted on the RPM. I'll just have to go with a different low profile aircleaner to clear the hood ....... I think.

Have you aquired an alphabet cam yet, or are you considering?

They are old school compared to some newer offerings from other companies like CC's extreme energy cams which offer higher ramp acceleration for a given duration.

I dunno how accurate this is, but the E cams duration @.050 is listed at 220 degrees when I looked it up. Here is a link to CC's 5.0 (351 firing order) hydrualic roller cams for a comparison.

http://www.compcams.com/Technical/CurrentC.../HTML/76-81.asp

shop around a bit before yopu decide. I know this is emmisons related, but nobody can visually determine what sort of cam you have in there.

No I haven't bought a cam yet. I have decided to go with the Edebrock Performer Plus package to be emission save. The suggested cam with this package has the same specs as the Ford E cam. I am thinking of going with a Crane cam, .282 duration, .499 lift. Same specs as E cam and the Edelbrock cam. This is the suggested cam specs to use with the Performer heads on the 85 block. Anything more and I risk valve clearance problems. I plan on talking to the Comp Cams and Crane Cams tech before I commit.
