If it's not running at all... Did anyone suggest the fuel cutoff relay? 'Cause I don't see it... I'm sure that's not it, but... Or maybe the fuel filter or the fuel regulator...?

Naw... surely I'm being silly for questioning these...
all good points now back in your cage . he also stated they had fuel pressure at the rail so we got to that point.

Ok so as of now we have checked timing, spark, injectors, battery, dizzy, grounding, fuel pressure, fuel quality, fuel shut off switch, new fuel filter, and now the timing cover is coming off to verify that it's in the correct position. Is it supposed to be at standard position or retard? Crane cam is mild.

Does it have good spark to the plugs? Is there spark from the coil? If so, spray choke cleaner into the intake and see if it attempts to start. Could just be fuel. If no spark to the plugs, check power and grounds to the dizzy and coil. If power and ground is good and no fire, replace them both.

So it's looking like the timing chain isn't At the correct position. Will keep everyone updated.

oops forgot to add. set to factory marks of going that route don't retard. I'm into degreeing the cam but pretty much sounds like they do not do it so at this point skip it I guess ( makes me wonder about the builder though) the timing events are sloppy from the factory. 10hp or so can be pulled out just by degreeing the cam.

Firing order off: HO & 351 use a different firing order from the non HO engines.
HO & 351W 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Non HO 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8

You're not 180 degs out are you? I had a 6 banger barely run and miss/backfire (though run at higher throttle [rough]) and the dist cap was 180 out. Pull #1 plug and verify TDC and note distributor. Verify plug wires & firing order.

<the dist cap was 180 out>

It was either that or I didn't have the plug wires on the dist in the correct order - can't remember now. It was like 10 yrs ago. But I had just put new wires on - seems like I was 1 or 2 wires off the more that I think about it. double
