I bought an 88 5.0 a few months ago and I rebuilt the engine it it. It shifts fine in all the gears except 3rd. It grinds some everytime before going into gear. I think that the syncro has gone bad and was going to drop the transmission and replace them. I am wondering if it is worth me doing it myself or if I should get someone else to do. And if there was a kit or something that I would have to buy, and where a good place to look at getting one would be. How hard of a job would it be to rebuild my transmission?

My car is idling rough and stuttered the last time I drove it. I think that my timing might be a little off or the spark plugs may not be gapped right. Any ideas of what it could be would help me out a lot.

HERE is some info on T5s.

Also try HERE for a pdf version of a rebuild manual.
Only YOU know your abilities. How hard of a job it (rebuilding)would be, depends on you and what you think of your abilities. Go for it.

Since it only happens when going into 3rd, it's probably NOT a clutch issue.
TRY HERE for some diagnosis/possibilities. If it happens in "gears clashing" (read plural) clutch would then be ONE primary suspect first, but "other" problems would be present also.
Hope this helps.
