Short Throw and Clutch?

Ok, the T5 I have is from an 87 4 cylinder. I would like a short throw shifter and a performance clutch.

So far, the shortest throw shifter I found is from Hurst and that reduces the throw by 40%. Is there any shifter out there that will reduce the throw by more than 40%?

As to the clutch, for the 8.5" 10 spline disc, the best (and only) performance discI've found so far is from Centerforce. Are there any others? Thanks.

Ok, I've found two shifters at 40%. One is the Hurst, the other is from MGW. Opinions anyone?

Also, I have found a Ram Clutch for the 4 cylinder in addition to the Centerforce clutch. Again, any opinions?

Just to double check, will the short throw shifters for the T5 from Hurst, MGW, Steeda, etc fit the 4 cylinder transmission. I had been told aside from gear ratios/gears themselves that all World Class T5s Ford used were the same, but I discovered the hard way that the front bearing retainer between the two is different.

So are the shifters the same between the V8 and the 4 cylinder?

Yes, the shifters will interchange with no problem. .....and yes, the bearing retainers are in fact different. If the bearing retainer has "908" stamped on it then it is a V8 and if "919" it is a 4 cylinder. Nobody makes a steel bearing retainer for the 4 cylinder transmissions anymore.

While nobody makes the steel bearing retainer for the 4 cylinder anymore, there is enough material on the V8 piece to be machined to accept the 4 cylinder bearing. I'm having a machine shop do that currently and I will post the numbers of how much needs to be removed.

As for the shifter, on average, how much taller is the shift "tower" on a short throw in comparison to the stock shifter?

Just what "bearing" are you referring to?

The throwout bearing that rides on that shaft is the same between a 4 cylinder and 8 cylinder transmission.....that is why I asked because you said you were modifying it so the bearing would fit....it's the same bearing so there should be no modifying.

The problem is the front "snout"...The throwout bearing is the same, but the retainer is different where the input shaft fits into. The 4 cylinder uses a larger Timken bearing than the V8 so the hole for the V8 is smaller. I bought the Ford Racing retainer from Summit and had the mahcine shop here at school modify the V8 unit to accept the 4 cylinder input shaft bearing

That's why I asked you "which" bearing and you seemed to indicate the throwout bearing. Yes, the "internal" bearing is different....that is what I was getting at.
