no oil pressure
Hello, I have a 1990 gt 5.0 , the car was running fine then all of a sudden it has no oil pressure, It still starts up fine but now you can hear the lifters ticking, Would this be the oil pump? What else can I check?
Thanks

It can be the oil pump or a couple different things. What kind of oil filter are you running?? Have you tried to change the filter to see if you get oil pressure back??

First thing you need to do is make sure your oil pressure gauge is still hooked up and the wire didn't get toasted by the header. The wire is actually two pieces in (some) cars and also disconnect right around the #5 cylinder (well, near the #5 injector).
that would make the most sense to me. Once you check that and everything is good, if you still don't have oil pressure then like the above poster said, my guess is that you spun the oil pump driveshaft. It is a common occurrence and is easy to fix. I wouldn't use a junk replacement though, get the steeel driveshaft that SVT carries. Its much beefier than the crap you get at the auto parts store. Oh, and change your oil

And another thing that could be considered is the oil pressure sender - though you did mention the lifters are now making noise. When you start the car now, does the oil pressure gauge needle move into the normal range, read low, or no indication at all? As others have mentioned, sounds like oil pump/pump drive shaft failure. ARP also makes a heavier duty oil pump drive shaft as well. If the pump failed, replace both it and the pickup together.

by the way, its easy to see if the oilpump driveshaft is broken... just pull the distributor and look down in the hole. There's another smaller hole where the oilpump driveshaft sits into the bottom of the distributor. If the hole is empty then you got yourself a broken driveshaft.
