As the question says I can't get my driver's side door to lock. The passenger side works fine. My door lock actuators work, I just replaced them. I still couldn't get it to lock with the lock actuators removed. I also replaced my door latch assembly. With the old assembly the lock would just pop back up when you pushed it down. Now with the new one it goes down, just not far enough. What gives?

It's an 86 GT with 115000 miles. Doors are lined up well and the hinge bushings and pins appear to have been recently replaced as have the strikers (I've only had it a month and have virtually no history other than my suspisions). I also have new lock cylinders, but it wouldn't lock with the old ones either. Although that did fix the passenger side locking problem.

Only thing I can think of would be taking the door panel off and seing if anything is interfering with the rod.

As far as I can tell the rods move freely. They appear to move the same as the ones on the passenger side. I'll probably pull it appart tommorrow and check again. I may bend some rods a little and see if it makes a difference.

Problem solved! I had to bend the lever for the inner door handle. It was too long, thus preventing full movement of the latch mechanism.
