Quick help. Never put in a clutch cable. Pics would help also. Any help would be GRATEFULLY appreciated

 

!st make sure you note the stock routing of the cable so it goes back the same way, losts of people miss this and then have cable binding or a noisy pedal after. also I always put in my 2 cents and state the best cable for the fox is the Ford cable. most aftermarket cables stretch and snap for some reason vs the factory, jsut something that has been noted over the years via many threads and topics on the subject. I'm also going to link this to my tech thread since it is a good one


cable install:

1. saftey, disconnect the battery and rasie the car and put it in jackstands ( you need to get under it)

2. remove the dust cover from the tranny ( it is on the side )


3. geta pry bar and compress the clutch fork so you can get the cable out or do what i have done and just cut it. slip the cable end out of the fork and pop the clip out of the bellhousing.







^^^ NOTE: THIS IS A BROKEN CABLE, THE CLIP IS BEING POPPED OUT. IF THE CABLE WAS INTACT ONCE YOU POPPED THE CLIP AND UNHOOKED TEH CABLE IT WOULD SLIDE THROUGH TEH BELL HOUSING HOLE. DON'T GET CONFUSED BY THE PIC.

4. follow the cable back to the fire wall remove all attaching bolts, very simple. next you will be at the firewall.

5. Next remove the retaining bolt that holds the cable to the firewall.


6. Now get inside the car. This would be good time to go to an aftermaket clutch quad like maximum motorsports or the like ( I don't like upr design) either way I would take out the driver seat to do a quad replacement. The cable will be nice and loose now so just reach up and hook it from the quad.




7. remove the old cable. you will have to snake it out from under the dash. ( remeber to note the stock cable routing so you can get it back the same way)

8. feed teh new cable end through the fire wall and attach to quad ( don't bolt anything up yet) route the cable just like the factory back down to teh tranny.

9. slip the cable end through the hole in the bell housing and then into the clutch fork. screw the nut onto the end of teh cable to hold it. next install cip to secure cable to bellhousing.



10. now go back and bolt up the cable end at the fire wall ( make sure the cable is still on teh quad first they do slip off) then follow back towards the tranny securing teh cable. next adjust.


My adjustment tips...

never adjust a clutch for "feel" or "driving style" total myth adjust the clutch for function.

correctly adjusted the clutch will begin to grab about 1/2 way up its travel. If the clutch grabs right off or very close to the floor then it is adjusted to loosely and will cause difficulty putting into gears, cause the car to roll on flat surfaces and cuase premature clutch/transmission wear.

If the clutch grabs to high or at the very top of it travel then it is adjusted to tight ( or your clutch is wasted if adjusting the cable will not fix the high pedal!! ) a clutch that is giving to high will cause it to constanly disengaging when driving.

you want the clutch to grab about 1 1/2 inches or so of the floor and have about 1 inch of end play on the pedal when the clutch is released.

Hey I been wanting to put nitrous in my car but people say it could blow it up. If I put maybe 100 shot would that be safe? It's my daily driven car

 

100hp shot is about the most you a want to go on the stock sbf. I myself would look at 75 but either way you need to get an idea of the state of the motor. run a compression test, etc. get it timed and run the correct plugs and you should be okay. it isn't the nitrous that kills the motor it the install, tune, IE improper fuel, timing, etc that will hurt it.

. call around to some good speed shops in your area. don't let a hack do it then you could be looking at big problems. that is one of the set backs of nitrous when it goes bad, it's going to be bad.

 

Hey i just got new tires n rims and my does are rubing the fender...I was told I could roll the fenders with a baseball bat. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
