My friend has a Foxy. Unsure on the year. He has not had a good run in at least a year because it is burning oil.
Just looking on some input on what the problem could be. I am thinking a worn ring or something. Just need some advice and pricing ideas.
Need to get his stang back on the road (just so I can kick it to him!).

Also, it has a hard time with variable idle speeds. Again, any ideas muchly appreciada.

 

How many miles? Could be a bad valve as well which could lead to some more 'stuff' being wrong.

If it wasnt cared for, then it could be bad rings. He could ry some lucas oil sabilizer, and see if it helps, but this stuff is $9 per quart, so that idea maybe out. He may be lucky and it is just valve seals.

Are you sure is actually burning the oil, or is it leaking from somewhere like the rear main seal?

The idle speed problem could/probably be the IAC. Take it off and give it a good cleaning, and see if that helps. You should also check the fuel pressure to see if that is the problem. The regulator may have gone bad from sitting so long

 

If your foxy friend was smart, the first thing he would have checked out is to have all the plugs pulled and a compression test done on each cylinder, by someone that's qualified, before spending any amount of money. Takes about 1/2 hour to do. That will tell him if the cylinders are up to snuff or not in compression (aka if the motor is shot). Burning oil, not idleing correctly, loss of power tells me it might have seen it's day motor wise. Would that be a hard or easy 150k?

 

The car drives ok. He was my best man at my wedding and took me to the church in the stang. The car ran fine at the time 2 years ago and it starts first time.

My friend works in bodywork and is talented painter. The car has been very well looked after (externally it looks good - minor rust). He hit a pole a few years ago after hitting a deer but he worked that out.

I am going to say it has had an average 150k. I know he whomped on it many a time because its a stang and you have to treat it rough sometimes, thats why they built it, so we could drive it.

It seams that only one plug is fouling. I havent taken a look at the car yet so I cant really identify the symptoms.
