Brake Upgrades to Fox Platform
New to the board. Looks like a great place.
I have been planning a brake upgrade for my 84 Capri for several years. I bought the 87 spindles probably 8 yrs ago. What I am wrestling with is using the SVO calipers with the 73 mm pistons and the SVO master cylinder to go with them.
I have recently heard that this is not recommended because of poor pedal without going to rear disc brakes. Has anyone made this mod and if so are you satisfied with the brake performance? Did you use a proportioning valve to balance the breaking?
One source I contacted said not to use the SVO caliper/master cylinder combo because of the above and another as well as an old magazine artilce said it was a good upgrade and worked fine.
I look forward to your responses.
Thanks
George

I have run the larger calipers on some cars and had no problems and on others had a soft pedal...not sure why the difference on similar cars but you can eliminate your proportioning valve and run the front brakes straight off the MC and install an adjustable proportioning valve to the rear brakes so that you can bias them in where you like them. I have done this on a number of different conversions from 73mm calipers to 4 piston Brembos and it works well.

I have some pics at home. Will post tonight if I get a chance. My car was in either March or April 2002 MMFF. Nice article titled "Don't Call it a Mustang.
