Best way to remove door hinge pins?

Thinking about replacing the hinge pins, especially on the driver's door on my '89. What is the best method to remove the original pins?

The lower pin on my driver's door is seriously worn out, the lower bushing is pretty much gone and the pin is beginning to get worn down too. I may do both doors anyway, since they are both rusted out and I have rust free doors waiting to go on the car anyway.

Thanks.
Mike

This is not a very easy job for the inexperienced.....you have to cut the pin in half and remove each half from each side...the pin is too long to come out one side. You will also need a punch and hammer...if your paint is nice or you don't want it chipped up then you will need masking tape or duct tape to protect the edges.

good luck! if a reciprocating saw can't do it, can a hacksaw blade accomplish this?

No and a hacksaw blade IF you could do it would take forever....there just isn't much room there. You really need a disc cutter(air powered) or a very small air powered saw that has a short stroke but it too will take a while compared to the disc cutter.

Maybe it would be possible to use a die grinder, but I would think the easiest way would be to use penetrating oil on the hinges, then just use a hammer and a punch...

You will still need a hammer and punch but it is necessary to cut the pins in half because there is not enough clearance to remove the entire pin intact with the hammer and punch. Once you cut the pins in half then you can use the punch and hammer to remove each half.
