Where in the (really want to abuse the language filter badly) is it???

The hazard flasher is right where it should be, IN THE FUSEBOX. For some reason, Ford decided to play where's Waldo with the turn signal flasher. Sidenote, why did they choose to use 2 flashers?

Chilton's manual says it should be on the mounting bracket above the fusebox. It ain't there. When I turn on the turn signals, I can hear 1 click coming from somewhere under the dash.

I crawled up under there as far as I could, BTW, I'm to fat and old for that, and I couldn't find it.

Does anybody know where it is, and the easiest way to get to it????

Thanks,

Did you pull the lower dash off? It might help open it up alittle?

There's a fuse box at the bottom of the dash, take the cover off and there's a round aluminum-looking piece at the bottom right corner of the fuse box...i think that's it. If not, theres a green one that looks just like it right behind the glove box, just squeeze the sides of the glove box and it should come all the way down, then look to the left and it should be there. I think it's either one of those.

The one in the fuse box is the one for the emergency flashers. I couldn't be lucky enough for that one to be the one that went bad.

I pulled the fuse panel down, and took the lower dash apart on the drivers side, still couldn't find it.

I'll check behind the glovebox tonight.

Thanks!

I finally found it. It was between the glove box, and the A/C controls. I don't know how they had it mounted in there, feels like it's soldered, and I couldn't get to it real well.

Just plugged the new one up, and now it's kind of dangling.

Twilight, you put me on it. The glove box led me to it.

Thanks guys!

Glad to hear you found it in behind and to your left in the glove box.

Side note to your experience
I replaced my tail light lense with clear ones.
After doing so I found some really cool RED LED bulbs like $17.00 a pair
Plus, not sure ther even legal. But than this car is a show car and not a daily driver.

Anyway, to the point I wanted to make.
After I replaced the bulbs with LED the blinkers would NOT flash.
Well unless of course you wanted to play with the blinker handle while turning.

" Not acceptable"

Anyway I talked to Auto Zone and he set me up with a different flasher unit.
This one is clear plastic about the same size and now the blinkers work fine.

Something to do with the LED bulbs are brighter but use less electricity.

Yeah it makes the realy read a dead link in the circut and stops sending power in case of a short. Read that to one of those sites that sell the LED bulbs, you need to add a resistor in he line to make the circut read a high voltage is being used.

Makes sense.
As I remember that tink sounds comes from a heating of a spring in the relay.
A lower voltage just does not heat it enuff. thus no tink sound

Thus the blinker in a constant on. any way glad I figured it out because at the time I replaced the blinker handle because the previous owners had a dog that chewed it up.

Daysleepin, you taught me something today. I always figured the turn signal flasher was just a simple relay using an electro-magnet. I was going to come back and correct your post. Turns out, you knew what you were talking about.

Here's a very detailed description of how a turn signal works, if anyone is interested.

I just bought this car and am trying to get everything working. I also had hazards working but no turn signals. I've been looking all day for the turn signal flasher. Still can't find it. Behind glovebox, behind stereo, anywhere near fuse box, no. But I saw a post about trying to wiggle the ignition switch (in run/on position), and that made the turn signals, truck release, and rear defroster all work, which all weren't working before.

there are many issues with the blinkers on these cars. a bad igintion switch is one of them. since you jingled the switch and got things working start there since it is known problem. the flasher is behind the dash, pull the glove box down, it is over in the radio, hvac control area. it is light blue in color

In my excitement I didn't think to listen for where the clicking of the flasher was coming from once I got it working. I'll do that today.

Try this, start the car and turn the heater on full blast and see if it comes on, if it doesn't slowly start turning the key back like your going to shut the car of until the fan kicks on, if the fan comes on try the blinkers.

At least this is what I have to do with my car since my ignition is a little worn after 22 years. It amuses my car to start and run but no blinkers, brake lights or heater until I turn the switch back a little.
