5.0 most HP?
What is the most HP anyone is running on a stock 5.0 block?
The dyno numbers show i overshot my goal for HP and now I am concerned about splitting the block. I hate to think of running NA when everything is setup for FI.
I would like to know the highest HP anyone has on the stock block and it is still running.

I would be willing to bet your on borrowed time, but I have never cracked a block personally (hope to crack one before too long though
) Check out the stock block cronicals over at turbo mustangs STOCK BLOCKS, those guys have busted quite a few stockers. Interestingly enough though, I dont think any of them have split an r, mexican, or dart block.

Good site Jason..
This one cracked me up though

Q: Will a main stud girdle help keep the block from breaking?
A: Ha, ha, no. All it will is hold all the parts together in a tidy pile. Some of the failures pictured below were equipped with stud girdles.

Yea, I liked that too. Bad thing is I am sure alot of people buy the stud girdles thinking it will give them extra tolerance on thier stock block. Bottom line is, if your gonna make big power, spend the money on a good block or it will come back to haunt you eventually.

Thats the impression I was always under. From what i've heard, girdle would keep you decently safe till about 550 or so, which apperently doesnt help much.

Definiltey not for the turbo stang crowd. It doesnt take much of a turbo system to bust the 500 fwhp mark very quickly. Saw a guy that did a twin setup on a completely stock motor using ihi turbos (the small ones that came on the later model turbocoupes) and he put down like 427 to the wheels. Those turbos arent even as strong as a stock svo t3.

i made 501 RWHP and 507 TQ on the stock block, didnt want to go much more past that.

How long have you been running it that way? Stick or auto? What RPM do you turn it to?

The general rule most top Ford engine builders use is that the stock 5.0L block can handle up to 500 hp, beyond that level you are living on borrowed time. Of course, the tune means everything, I've seen guys explode 5.0's making less than 500 hp because of an improper tune, too lean + boost equals trouble. Just my $.02
guy i know from another forum ran 525rwhp on a 93 cobra under 14 PSI of boost for quite a little while (6 months) before a batch of bad gas detonated psiton #8 if you got a good tune they are quite the little engine
