why don't the seams line up on pony seat covers

I recently completed the passenger seat in my 65 mustang and after putting the back on the bottom I was a little disappointed to see that the seam from the back to the bottom didn't line up on the right side. It's off by about 1/2 inch. It lines up pretty well on the left side. It wouldn't be so bad it were a solid color but with the two toned it stands out. The side piping is right where it should be and the seat foam is new. The upholstery is from Distinctive Industries

Has anyone out there seen this problem? Is this the way it should look? Any advice?

I use to have an upholstery man I used that was killer. When he ran into a problem like this, he would resew part of the upholstery to make the seams line up. Unfortunately he has moved out of state and I can't locate him. Take your seat to an experienced upholsterer and see if he can fix it. Looks good otherwise! kennyg

Thanks for the responses. I would think re-sewing the seams would be kind of tricky because it appears that the white material longer and the blue material is shorter because the side piping is where it should be. If I were to simply shorten the white material then the side piping would come to the front. If you let a seam out then you see little holes in the vinyl where the previous seams were.

Do you know if Ford originally produced upholstery with this defect? If this were common to see originally then I guess it doesn't seem so bad. Kind of like orange peel in the paint.

Who's got the best upholstery? This is my fourth set of covers (several other mustangs) and I've always used Distinctive Industries. I've had other problems with them such as my red covers faded quickly turning purple!! Vinyl dye in a spray can is magic stuff....

what are the chances of shifting one or the other over about a quarter of an inch and split the diff? I dont think it would be that noticeable at that point. I just pulled the passinger seat out of my 66 to do the same, but mine are all black so that may not be a problem for me.

Just looked at the ones on mine done from the factory, the top piping sits outside the bottom piping, kinda off set, so you may just have to adjust them that way.
good luck
