Here is the thing. I brought my 65 out for a drive today and everything was going smooth as far as car running etc... I then get back home and park her in the driveway to do a bit of detailing before pulling it into the garage. When I stsrt her to pull into the garage she starts up but sounds pretty weak and then dies out. I wait 30 secs and try to start up again and there is no response when I turn the key, engine doesn't even turn at all..I'm thinking oh crap what now? So I open up the hood and there is a pretty strong smell of gasoline. I make sure everything is on tight and nothing came loose, wait about 5 min try again, car starts right up. Let it idle about 20 secs and pulls right into the garage as if nothing happened. Any ideas as what happened? Maybe a bit flooded???

Sounds like vapor lock. Chances are, your fuel is getting too hot, and trying to go from liquid to gas. Check your fuel lines and make sure they aren't running too close to exhaust, or laying on the block or something like that. I'm not sayin' that's what it is, but the symptoms allow for it.
Good luck.
Good luck.

"try to start up again and there is no response when I turn the key, engine doesn't even turn at all" Vapor lock will starve engine for fuel, you had no crank and smelled fuel, not vapor lock. No crank condition was electrical. Try removing and cleaning the battery cable connections; at the battery, into and out of the starter solenoid, on the starter and also the ground connection on the block. Check the smaller starter wires to the starter solenoid for a good tight connection and clean any corrosion, may want to run a bit of sandpaper over all the contact points.

I did check all connections. Everything was tight. Can clean em up a bit this weekend when I get some time. Maybe I will post a few new pics of her than too. Put fogs on her and a new wood steering wheel, plus a brand new wax and wash. Thanks for all your help in your responses fellas!

Yeah it is a factory color. It's 98' Chrome Yellow. Painted by the guy who I bought it from last fall. He painted it in spring a few months before I got the car. Originally my car was white with the vinyl top.

I had a similar problem: once the car got hot, it was hard to start, if not impossible. Sometimes it would crank weakly, other times not at all. If you pump the accelerator, you get the gas smell.
Turned out to be a weak battery and old battery cables. I replaced them and haven't experienced those symptoms in 3 years.
