Update - Found my dads 69 Mach 1
A while back I posted a story about possibly being able to track down my dads 69 Mach 1.

Well, it has surfaced, the new owner called my father last night after 2 years of attempting to locate him in order to get the back story on the car, look for old parts, etc. So good news and bad. First the bad news, no way are we going to be able to buy it. Good news, it's in the process of a "Concourse Trailered Gold Restoration", with a projected unveiling date of the 2009 MCA show in Indianapolis. Now while that is really cool, the guys in charge of the restoration are regarded as two of best restorers in the world, at least according to this:

These guys built this Boss 429, "considered by the Mustang Club of America to be the finest and most authenticly restored thoroughbred Boss 429 in the world today and quite possibly the finest restored car of any kind in the world". From what I can gather, the class of restoration that my fathers old car is now going through isn't quite that crazy, but pretty much top tier nonetheless. So the same guys are doing this restoration, and based on history, this car could become one of the best examples of the 1969 Mach 1 in the world.
So while it's a complete bummer to know that I will NEVER be able to get my dads car again, my dad is happy as can be knowing that it's not sitting in some junkyard somewhere or in a scrap pile after it was cut up for parts. As of today, the car has been stripped down and now primered in the original factory "slop gray" primer. And so it begins, here's a pic of the car prior to the restoration. When I was a baby I sat on the hood of that car, gives me chills.

Yep, that's it! Very happy that this guy has the car, I've tossed and turned so many nights thinking that the car was either a heap of scrap metal or some kid had torched out the entire back seat area to put in a bunch of subwoofers and was running neon lights on it. Like I said, I really wanted the car back, but it would take me years to get it to a respectable state. I of course had visions of doing a resto mod on it and giving it back to my dad some day. So literally the next best thing is this, my dad is so happy about this that it makes the disappointment melt away.
A co worker of mines wifes cousin has a Boss 429 in his garage in Tenn. with ~ 10k miles on it. Original owner too. I saw the pictures of it. Man what a find that would be today hidden in a barn or something.
great story .. the super cobra jet i had back in 76 could probably be still in existance as the car was perfect when i got rid of it .. just the idiot i sold it to put a 6 cyclinder motor in it .. not too r code 6 bangers around i bet ..
Good to hear that it was found. It's something like my parent's 71 Z/28. I saw it about five years ago (in really bad shape) and told my mom I wanted to get it back, but haven't seen it since then.

You are young enough if you love the design you should be able to track down and affordable 69-70 to restore yourself. Having the same body style would be cool even if it isn't the one your dad had.
When I was 18 I bought a 69 sportsroof off the dealers used lot. This was 1970 and the car had already clocked 22K. It wasn't near the car a Mach 1 was but it was a very cool car to have at 18. I learned a lot of hard lessons and wrecked the car 3 or 4 times before having to sell it because I landed in high risk insurance coverage land. My car payment was $64 a month and the insurance went up to a whopping $78 a month.
My 69 was a medium blue metallic with a 302 engine. I got to talk to the original owner before I bought it and he gave me the story on it. It came from the factory with the 302 but had a 2 barrel card with single exhaust and a 3 speed on the floor. The original owner had the Ford dealer change it to a Holley 600 cfm 4 barrel and dual exhaust. He also had it lowered 2" and claimed it had Shelby shocks all the way around. It handled pretty darn good but had 4 wheel manual drum brakes. For those of you that don't know the sportsroof designation was what Ford called the fastback.
I don't have any real desire to have that exact car back but I would love to have a decent 69 or 70 sportsroof car to build up, even if I just made an old restomod racer out of it.

I wish I could find the 66 coupe that I was offered a few years ago, it was cherry red, with black lemans stripes and a black vinyl top...only $4000, but I was only 14 and had zilch on the money, kinda sucks
I wish I could have one of my first cars, but one (the 77 Volvo) I wrecked it and sold it for parts, and the other (84 Sentra) I sold it to and A-hole who got himself into some deep trouble and the poor car paid the consequences. I hate that guy
