Type-F ATF Equivalent or Replacement???

I need to fill my cars Automatic Transmission and Power Steering Fluids, I went all around the auto parts shops in my country to look for Type-F but with no luck.

I recently purchased a 1966 Mustang 289 C-code with Automatic trans and power steering, from the US and had it shipped abroad to my country and I realized I will not Find Type-F as older ford cars are not common so demand for Type-F is not required.

My question is is there an equivalent to that which I can buy and fill my car with as a permanent switch?

If not then is there another power steering fluid I can use till I sort this out. I need to drive the car for approximately 6 trips of 30mins each So if I can fill the power steering with a different type/grade fluid temporary and flush it when I get the Type-F

If there is not permanent replacement I will need to order some Type-F ATF from the US and have it shipped to my country. (if some one can help me out with this if this is the last resort that would be helpful)

BTW either way I need to fill my power steering fluid,, so I need an alternative as the reservoir is empty, for the auto transmission I can wait a while but not for the power steering.

What country are you in?

Type F trans fluid is very common. The local craigs auto parts had it. Like I said in the other thread, you're supposed to use it in your power steering pump. I find it hard to believe that you can't find it.

Im in Bahrain its a small island in the middle east, we have only one Ford dealer but they do not stock part etc... for older cars, they have parts etc for cars from the 90s + anyways Motorcraft stopped producing it also, and the dealership doesn't carry other brands.

I tried alot of auto shops and they dont carry Type-F its not common to see Ford cars older than the 90s in Bahrain.

What if I use Motorcraft Type-M for the power steering

I really couldn't tell you about type M. I'm not even sure if that's close to being the same thing?

You might try Ford's customer service and see if they can tell you.

I went ahead with Mercon V from motorcraft for the Power Steering, Im just wondering whats the worse that could happen with the power steering with wrong fluid?

as for the transmission I waiting to know what the person who rebuild it used after the rebuild and I found a lead thanks to a fellow mustanger from france, he pointed out
Total ATF 33.

So I went to Totals Agent in my country and they do not stock it but the guy in charge said he might be able to order it for me and he will get back to me.

Well, the worse that could happen to your power steering is that it will leak all over the place, and you will have to get it rebuilt, or replaced which isn't too much money, at least here!

I'm glad you were able to get some Auto Trans fluid. I hope your trans doesn't leak too much. Mine leaked all over the floor for a while. That's when I knew it was time to get the trans overhauled. lol

Do you have any pics of your car?
