I bought it 4 new tires today. Only had 2, so I have to go get the other 2 on Wed. I got BFG Radial T/A's. Pretty sure they are 205/70-14. I have had nothing but great luck with that brand! Had them on my last 4 rides. Should I get the letters showing or not? I was going to have them shown, now thinking not to. It's just about ready to do my in town errands in. 1 of the blinkers doesn't work. I'm going to see if my guy can get that to work. Next month I can afford to tag & insure it. I'm almost @ least driving it. Thanks!!

I drove it about 5 blocks to get gas in it. I took a longer way home. It drove rather well, I thought. Getting it ready to take to the tire shop. When I went to get my tires today, they didn't have them. Never even thought to call. Oh well.

Does it overheat? That can be a real issue with these cars.......

I don't think it did. Tell ya the truth, never even thought of that. I live in a tiny town, our blocks aren't that big. I took it to have those tires put on today. Dropped it off & he kid said it'd be about :45. Forgot to look @ the time it was, so went back to find out. While pulling up, I saw it was parked out away from where I parked it, still with the 14 year old tires. He said the battery was dead so he couldn't start it. I just drove it about 2 miles from my house. Did great with me, the battery that is. I bought it on 12/17/09. I then took it where I bought it, O'Reillys. They now don't just give you a new one, now test it on their machine. Takes about :45. Every since I handed over, I was afraid that test would show nothing wrong! I went back when the time was up. What I guessed, he said it was A-OK. I asked if good or good enough not to give me a replacement, he said good good. I said then a bad word to myself!! I will take it & my 95 tomorrow. If this one doesn't work, I'll use my Optima to get the tires swapped. That sounds alright, right? I am not car smart, hell any smart!! Thanks!!

Yeah, that sounds good. Maybe it was something else that was wrong with your car?

I stayed up all night so I could take it in as soon as the place opened. If I went to sleep, no way I could get up that early! Sorry, it stayed there over night, I went to it today. I put in the battery I thought was bad, started right up. I had the tires put on. I then drove it home, & I go by that gas station so I put more in it. When I got ready to leave, battery didn't do anything! No clicks or anything. I got out & moved the battery cables. It took a while, but the battery started working. In all that I was pretty sure I flooded it? Because I don't know anything about every thing, I started calling the guys whos knows stuff. My dad really doesn't, he did say leave it alone for :15 to unflood? Sorry, not even sure what that's called. In about :12 the guy I wanted to get a hold of the most showed up. He told me to hold the pedal to the floor until it starts. That worked! I drove it the 4 blocks home to were I wash my cars. While backing in there, it kept dying. Then the battery just stopped again!! It was good enough. Sorry this is so long! I then washed it. Realized that was way more than I can chew!! There's no way I can fool myself into doing it!! When Lisa & I chat tonight, I am going to tell her I can't do it. I can kinda tell where I scrubbed on the chrome rims. That's all that looks different. The more I got down to scrubbing, worse crap I saw. Yeah, prob will take pics of it after I washed it. Prob going to be the end of this plan. Maybe later I will buy me one? Can't afford to buy a super nice one, will for sure be better than this one! See ya!!

& why the hell was that blue to the letters applied? Scrubbed forever! Still on there. Got good enough.

Yeah, there has been tons of times I was ready to get rid of my 95. Thankfully I never did. Kinda feeling the same for that 65. It still won't start. Anybody know if that O'Reillys test charged the battery while testing? If it did, meant it did for about 35 minutes. Not sure if I need to have it charged. Too hot here to move my Optima battery over to it. Washing it dang near killed me. All I have in my life that's worth anything is my car(s). When 1 goes down, just brings my thoughts way down! I'm used to my life being pretty bad. It's not so good when it gets worse. Hope I calm down for Monday's dealings with it.

Well, if it's just a battery that should be easy enough to replace?

I had some issues with what's called a "neutral safety switch" on my auto trans. The car wouldn't start in park, but it would start when the trans was in nuetral. Does that sound like maybe is happening to you?

You can try starting the car in neutral and see if it starts.

Dad had his 64 1/2. He got off early today & said it might be the solenoid? I had memories of jumping something. No idea what you jumped, though. Turns out it was this part. He tried, not that car savvy. I'll go talk with my mechanic in the morning tom. It'sd a cheap O'Reilly battery. Think it's OK though. Did I say put it on a charger yest? It should be fully charged? It makes a sound when you 1st try & start it. Nothing I can describe. Like on 2nd try, it does nothing.

It's late, I'll go try that neutral thing! Thanks, I hope.

Nope, nothing! Not even that sound.

turn the headlights on- are they bright? if youve got a voltmeter, can check voltage at the battery with lights on(cant really check a battery unloaded- the testers are just a voltmeter with a load resistor across the leads) should not go much below 12v with lights on- if it drops to 9-10, the battery is dead.
can leave the lights on and try to crank it- if it dont turn over, do the lights go dim/out? if the lights dont go dim, probably a wire corroded on the starter, pretty common if its sat a long time.if it cranks but wont start, might need a tuneup...our 65 galaxie 289 always cranks like 20 seconds before it will start- nothin like a new car Our 65 has new points/everythings set, but it still seems weak starting up. thinking about a pertronix points replacement module- hear they really make a hot spark for starting.

I dont understand the car- its your friends dads, you are fixing it up and they are going to let you use it? or did I misread a bunch...

She's alive! The wire from battery to solenoid was corroded. Starts like a champ now. Me & the owner chatted last night. I told her I would get it running, but could not do the body work. Today, thinking I might not do that? Need to talk more with her. Thanks!!

ford4v429, it has all new basically every thing! It hadn't been started since about '96? My mechanic gave it a full tune-up. Thanks!!

Yes, I went to HS with it's owner. I'm restoring it to use far a daily driver. Maybe not now, though. This kinda opened my eyes to it all.

I'm glad to hear that it was something simple!

My car left me by the side of the road when I first got it. On the 820 freeway!

I put it on the back of a tow truck, took it down to my mechanic, and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I think it was vapor lock since the fuel line was routed across the intake instead of around it like it should have been......

I'm glad to see you stuck with it. I thought maybe we had lost you? lol
