Timing 65 200 6 cylinder

I have a quick question on timing. When you find tdc on the 200 6 cylinder by taking out the #1 spark plug and cranking the engine till you get a puff of air. The rotor in your distributer should be pointed at the #1 on your distributer cap. RIGHT???? Mine is pointed at the #5.

In broadstroke terms,, yes. Providing the piston is at the top. Question: Did the car run before you started this timing check? Mark.

1 is first to fire then 5 .. they are close together .. you have no problem most likely .

Yes the car ran, just has never seem to have the power it should when pulling out. It is an automatic. So trying to figure the problem out.
Runs good after you get going, just seems to not have the pull it should.
Trans has been rebuilt and topped off with fluid.

if you think the timing is a little slow you can bump it up a little and see if that helps .. if you can mark the distributors current location and increase timing bit by bit till it runs good with pinging or hard starting ..
