I was reading a M+ article on seat pan removal and modifications for taller folks. I read that all you needed to do was drop the pan down 2" but nothing mentioned about going back any. Anyone down this? Comparing my '02 seats with an original set...I'm 2" higher in front and 1 1/2" in the back.

Dan I did the seat pan modification on mine, I lower it 1.5" and moved it back 1". If I had it to do over I would have lowered it at least 2" maybe more and back 2". It's still a little cramped for my hieght of 6'3", but I can live with it.

If I understand right your wanting to use the tracks that came with your new seats. I wanted to do the same thing, but even with relocating the seat risers, the new seats were still too tall. So I ended up using the original seat tracks, they bolt to the new seat at the front and then I had to drill two new holes at the rear.

I'm sure the new seat tracks could be made to work, but for mine it looked like I would have had to do away with the seat riser all together which wouldn't have been good.

Ronnie,
I am using a 1/4" thick plate that is 3" wide. By using this plate I can bolt the new seats to them then bolt the plate to the old holes. I looked at the old tracks before I sold the seats and it just would not work. These seats are narrower than the originals and slightly longer. What about the holes on the floor? Would they still line up even going back 2"?

Hey, I also did the M+ trick and even had the wife (5'4") try them out and no prob.! The holes in the floor, well, I could reach the front ones with a swivel and socket, the backs, i had to open up the holes a little, but not much. B)

(("What about the holes on the floor? Would they still line up even going back 2"?"))

If your talking about the holes in the floor pan, I also had to open them up towards the rear. I had thought about opening them up enough to use the rear shock rubber plugs if I had needed anymore room.

I am a little apprehensive about doing that since I have original floors and wanted mod's that were bolt on if I ever sold it. My car has 56,000 original miles and have the original motor too. I guess I'll cut it down and see.

I moved it down about 2" and back about 1 1/2" (was a while ago!). I'm 6'1" and the wife is 5'4"(she's shrinking!) and we both fit pretty good with later model mustang seats. B)

Dan, if you are 5'9" then you should be fine with the seats in the stock location front to back. Just trim things down to get the height you need. I'm 6' and I brought things down but kept the front to back location. Though I'm using an aftermarket seat that has proper mounts.

Ok, It is finished and it didn't turn out half bad. My friend with the welder initially could not tell a difference until I pointed it out. I have spot welded the pan every 4" or so. Exactly how much more should I do until you would stop welding it and call it good?
