Well guys, i'm now at the point of having my 351W rebuilt.....i know what i want to get out of that motor, but i also want to know what you guys think of this....my engine builder is telling me that i should go roller instead of flat tappet.....he's been rebuilding engines for 30 years now and knows a few things about engines....lately he's been getting problems with flat tappet cams, whether it be installed in Ford or GM blocks, seems like the lobes of the cam just collapses.....so he's not using Comp cams anymore.....he's really insisting that i go with a roller cam .....my goal is an honest 400HP, with a near like flat tappet exhaust note...will a roller achieve the same exhaust sound as a flat tappet....anyone with such a set up or heard of it is welcome to give me some feed back...

I don't think it would effect your exhaust note, and if you're shooting for 400hp, you want to be as efficient as possible, and a roller cam can only help. I take it you haven't gotten a distributor for the setup yet? Or if you have, you plan on a distributor gear swap to go with the new roller cam?

Don't have the choice but to change the distributor.......moneywise i know it will cost me more, but in the end i will feel more relaxed knowing that my cam won't break....thanks for the input..

What sort of oil does he reccomend for his builds? A problem with modern engine oil is the removal of some of its lubricating additives due to EPA rulings. The down side is oils formulated for modern engines will kill a yestertech engine. My brother ran into the same problem on a 350 in his Nova, cam was worn down and it was manufactured by Lunati.
