Power windows and locks 66 coupe

Can anyone suggest a good power window and lock system for a 1966 mustang coupe? I plan on adding a new wiring harness (either painless or autowire), so if anyone has experience with this set up, I'd appreciate any help! Thanks!

i`m thinking that if you did this you may very well be the first person to do so ...i would start by looking at some cars of the same era that have power windows and locks .. such as an ltd or lincoln .. then seeing if i could make/fabricate/swap the inner door workings of one of those to fit the stang door ..course the simpliest thing would be if someone makes a kit for just what you want but iv`e not heard of any and have never looked for any ....

No, Willie, the first one I've heard of was a couple of guys here in Houston that I personally knew. They did it for one of the guy's '66 fastback. Got some 90 T-Bird window motors and grafted them onto the regulators. Tada, power windows. Stuck the switches in the console. And I'm sure they got the idea elsewhere.

As stated, there are kits nowadays. Typically, there are two kinds, one that replaces your regulators, and the other that puts a gear around your window crank shaft, and then with two cables that go to the motor you hide in the door somewhere, turns the crank, so it operates the same as if you had the crank. You put a cover on the hole that's left behind by the old crank.

And that's the biggest problem with the retrofiting, is the panels will have holes you have to deal with.

Which is why this one is extra slick:

Use the crank as the switch. Brilliant!

Who's Willie? What year did your friend do this? The kind that goes on the existing shaft has been around since the 70's. the complete kit was out as early as 2006 because that's when Mustang Monthly did a how-to, maybe not their first. I commend your friend for his efforts, but that's a lot of work for something that exists.

Willie is the guy above ya, aka HOSS429.

And yes, those gear on the crank type kits have been around a while, but the first time I heard of the idea at all was when I heard what they did with the motors on the regulators directly, which until then hadn't been done much, if at all.

Nobody made those kinds of kits when they did it, so they grafted them on. And for them, since it was a total restomod being done, and they had the know how and equipment, it was literally nothing do tack those motors on the '66 regulators and fix up the door panels and such.

That's cool. If you got the skills, the mechanisms are pretty straight-forward, so there would be money saved for sure.

We've not even talked about the door locks.

http://www.jcwhitney.com/garage-pro-...?filterid=u0j1

That's about what you're lookin' for on that, or for the complete setup, doors and windows for a 2 door:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/complete-el...erid=c2796u0j1

But I don't know how they mount the window parts.

At Jegs, here's a gear based window kit:
http://www.jegs.com/i/Electric+Life/...9-S98/10002/-1

And a single direct motored regulator kit, you'd need two... ouch:
http://www.jegs.com/i/Electric+Life/366/FD38-K/10002/-1
And still need wiring/switches.
http://www.jegs.com/i/Electric+Life/...0-421/10002/-1

Full complete power lock system:
http://www.jegs.com/i/Electric+Life/366/95120/10002/-1

And none of that does the rear quarter windows. You'd have to get another kit for those and wire those up, switches and all, or get a four switch system out of a Fox or something like that... OOH, get an old '66 Thunderbird or equivalent four window switch for a Landau. Had four switches on it, console mounted. Yeah. Do that.

You'd need this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-1966-THUNDERBIRD-POWER-WINDOW-SWITCH-MASTER-CONTROL-BESEL-/221245787347?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item338346ccd3&vxp=mtrAnd a couple of these:

And the little rocker switch is the one for the door locks. Put a console in your Mustang, and you got a pretty cool setup right there ya ask me.

Here's a marked '66 one so you know what's going on, but it's kinda ugly... might still could be salvaged...

/Livin' vicarously through other's projects. WHEE....!
