Mustang suspension

I am restoring my 1965 mustang coupe and I am curious as Ti what everyone has done with their suspension. I am going to make the car daily driver and it will have a 302 engine. Thanks for your help!!

just a good stock rebuild of components should suffice .. they made zillions of these cars and the stuff worked good .. of course you could step up to a modern rack and pinion system if you like but they are very pricey ...

That's what everyone says shouldn't be to much next thing you know months have gone by and it is still ongoing. I also upgraded my front coils to 1" drop performance ones. After pulling the original coils off it sat at the same height but a bit stiffer. Also recommend changing the leaf springs as they are more then likely very tired.

I'm installing a TCI front suspension. It's pretty sick. If your handy with a plasma cutter, grinder and welder, I deffinetly recommend. I'm actually installing in my 68 fastback today... Your can do a YouTube search on Stacy David's gearz v8 interceptor. He installs one on a 68 cougar.

I bought a kit from John at Opentracker Racing Products. He was a big help in deciding what I needed and I even worked it out so I could pick it up when I was at Laguna Seca for vacation rather than paying shipping. He also helped greatly with installation assistance when I got confused a few times.

I replaced the front upper and lower control arms, springs, shocks, and strut rod bushings. I did standard parts but I did buy rollerized spring perches. It corners like it is on rails and before it handled like crap, partially because the front right shock was completely gone...

John also sold me a template which was used to drop the upper control arms down by about 1", known as the Shelby drop, which provides better grip by providing better geometry/alignment for modern tires.

I also put in a monte carlo bar and a beefy strut tower brace from CJ Pony Parts.

It still rides pretty rough as it did before on the crappy roads where I live, but it takes spirited corners like a champion. I did choose some sportier/stiffer springs. I planned to do quite a bit of stuff to the back suspension but haven't got around it since I got into modding my new toy...

I would definitely give John at Opentracker a call. He can put a package together for you or even just give you very experienced advice on what you need for how you want to use the car.

You can call TCI directly and they could help you out with where to buy. These suspensions will make your car drive and handle like a new modern car. They're pretty simple to install with the step by step instructions, provided your handy with a welder.

If your based out of California USA your in luck. You won't have to pay much on shipping. I live in Toronto Canada, shipping was a *****!

I paid $3300 delivered to my door.but that also included power rack and pinion steering, powder coated A arms, adjustable spring coil overs, and engine mounts. I bought it last year during Christmas, when they had there year end sale... Wait for the sales to begin, if your interested. They're always having promotions on...

Not to be a smart a**, but Google "how to identify a ford nine inch." I just tried it and there are a lot of good answers already out there. I forgot to search this forum, it's probably already here as well.

if you can remove all the nuts from the center section with a ratchet and socket it will be an 8 inch .. a nine inch will require a boxed end wrench on a couple of nuts ..

Who has the best prices for a mustang 2 front suspension? Or does anyone recommend a different front suspension to put on my 65 coupe? It's going to be a daily driver. Tell me what you have done to your front suspension! Thanks

Unless, your looking to put a engine that's too big to fit without going the Mustang II route the aftermarket as well as the Shelby A arm drop shouldn't be ruled out.
I've seen these vintage car perform at track events with Ford suspension, Total Control Products, Global West and others. Unless space for your engine is the reason I'd find where your budget leads you!

This would be my recommendation as well. For a daily driver, anything more than a Shelby drop with GT or 620 springs with a larger sway bar and a set of quality gas shocks is overkill. I like rubber bushings over polyurethane. Poly performs better, but oh the squeeking! On a daily driver, it might drive you nuts.
