In my quest for a better handling, better riding car, I decided to start with sub frame connectors. I saw an article at the M&F website on homemade subframe connectors. The first step was assuring you have a solid frame to start from. I decided that I should put my car up on the lift and check out my frame. I think I am okay... looks pretty solid... dont you think?



Lookst solid to me... well except that GAPING HOLE!!! I guess the bastards that were SUPPOSED to fix the rust in the frame didnt do so hot. Oh well. That was 8 years ago. I have developed my metal burning skills since then.

Weld-in the inside and bottom...


Weld in the outside...


Grind it nice and pretty...


Paint it... what repairs?!?!


I held the driver front corner up with the PTO shaft oout of a BIG tractor. I also marked some points on the frame and took before and after measurements... no shifting at all.

Ug!! Me melt metal with fire! Hammer and grind metal to make pretty.

Actually those are OLD bath towels that have been demoted to GOOD shop towels (IE for drying off the truck etc... not MY truck... they are actually DAD's good shop towels).

Hey... how do I fog the inside of the frame with paint, undercoat, or something like that to prevent rust again? I painted the inside of the frame rail with primer, but I dont think its gonna hold up long...

 

In the first picture I think I can see the framerail access/drain hole? Pop that out, if you have a long neck adapter you can spray it in that way. Can get 'em online, from JCW and HF.

 

Actually, that is where the power steering bracket that the ram mounts to would go...

I can get a wand in there, I just dont know where to get the wand. I checked Harbor Freight... it made my eyes bleed. I hate that site.

 

When I did inside my cowl, I sourced a "long neck spray adaptor" from McDonalds... Yep, a good ole drinking straw.
