What are my choices when going with a latemodel alternator? I'm installing an '85 5.0 and keeping the serpentine setup. Since I need a new alternator anyway, which should I go with? One-wire, stock '85, 3G (likely out of my price range, but I still want to know what's out there).

Any wiring advice or links you may have would be great.

For one-stop shopping, you simply can't beat PA Performance. I used their 3G upgrade kit for the 87 GT that Coupe now owns. Quality stuff - good direction, and they KNOW what they're talking about.

Now, so I won't be accused of only giving the "hi-$" approach, you CAN do the same upgrade with a little reading, splicing, soldering, and searching. Here's some "alternate" (pun intended ) resources:

I've used Powermaster and cheap models off eBay (one wires). I have found the Powermasters are the only ones that tend to work right the first time, you get what you pay for. Too bad I eBayed the 1 wire I had a couple months ago, that was setup for V or serp.

As far as the 1 wire there's nothing to it other than running 1 wire to the (+) side of the solenoid. 130amp is good if you are running a number of electric items like ignition, fans, fuel pump, etc.

If you skimp on the alternator you will more than pay back for it on other parts, time, etc.
