Hi Sirs --
I am new here but not to Stangs in general.

Here's what i am helping a customer with.. He has a 66 coupe that is in really good condition to be unrestored..

He has a 390 that is fresh (not my choice), and wants to put it in the 66. He wants to use the Mustang II suspension, or something resembling it.
I have seen Heidts mustang 2 kit .. It looks ok i guess. Has anyone done this swap, or should we fab something different?

I want to keep the engine block/heads as close to the firewall as possible.

I dont have the car here yet, will i ample oil pan clearance,etc..? :bang:

Welcome to TMS and howdy!

390?

Tell him to anchor his boat with that one and get something worthwhile.

I dont personally know anyone foolish enough to have actually gone thru with this Get your customer on this forum and let about 2,000 enthusiasts tell him its a no-go He needs a C or Windsor!

That 390 is gonna make it handle like a cow on roller skates :notnice: ...if it can be done at reasonable cost, which isnt a sure thing...

Thanks LMan --
I too advised him NOT to go with the FE...

Yes, a C or Windsor would be a much better choice. Then the suspension upgrade would be no problem, might even think about V8 Granada stuff, for street use that is.

I'd still like to get more opinions, Please.

How about giving him an article that discusses the effect weight distribution has on how the car will handle. The book "How to make car handle" will give him far more information than he can process, maybe then the light bulb will light up.
