Hello everyone. I have a 69 fastback that will eventually get restored but I just had a friend buy a 68 coupe and he was asking me for good parts sites but since i havent really started on mine yet i dont know very many. I was just wondering what were some really good websites for first gen parts that you guys use. I know of a couple but have heard good and bad about them. I could google them but I thought I would be more helpful to ask the people that actually shop off of them which ones they use. Thanks!

 

CJ Pony parts has been good for me so far.

 

CJ Pony has been awesome, especially due to the free shipping. I also like Mustang Plus.

NPD is more expensive than CJ but I have found that overall I have fewer problems with parts from NPD. The back order situation at CJ can also get very annoying. If time is not an issue and your friend is capable of dealing with potential fit issues, he will save significantly with CJ. He'll just pay for it in frustration.

They vary all over the ballpark on availability and price. I've had good results from all, but CJ Pony has an edge - never any shipping charges!

In fact, I have a Favorites list that covers lots of suppliers associated with early Mustangs (IMO) that I've collected over the years. So I've zipped it and attached it for anybody's use.

Thanks guys. I'm in iowa so I'm a ways away from washington. So cj has fitment issues? I knew they get backordered often. Have you had fitment issues with them often? Any particular reason why they don't fit well or is that why their parts are cheaper?

 

I only used Mustangs Unlimited after a few problems with CJ Pony.

 

I've had alot of luck with ebay, larger items can ship grey hound bus line for cheap. Bought a convertible top frame with hydraulic pump and pistons, shipped from cali to mass for 100$.

I believe there are a limited number of companies that make the parts. The companies we buy them from just resell, for the most part. Companies like Scott Drake and Daniel Carpenter (weatherstrips) have good reputatations and it doesn't matter where you buy them. It is the parts with no brand name that concern me. CJ's appears to keep their prices down by not stocking a lot of parts. When you order it, they order it and pass it on to you. I believe if they are not ready to order, you have to wait longer. Like I said earlier, if you are not in a hurry, you will save money, even on the "brand name" parts. SSBC, Classic Air, Borgeson, etc are the same If you get them from CJ's or anyone else.

 

Jegs has been great with their tech line and they w match anyone's price but I find them to be inexpensive. And all shipping is free. Been happy so far

Yes there are a bit more but most of the parts are in stock. I built my car using most of their parts. And If they didn't have it, no one else did. That said, if you can wait, then I would buy parts from somewhere you can go pick them up from. This way you can inspect them when you pick it up.
