My lid has been off for about 3 months while I repainted the inside of the trunk. Upon re-assembly, I found that the trunk tension rod will pop out on the passenger side when the trunk is closed. If my memory is correct, there was once a small metal piece that went over the rod to keep it in place.

I have looked at 2 other fastbacks and there is nothing on the rod (both parts/junk cars). Is my memory correct? If not, is my hinge just too worn and needing replaced?

Thanks -

Steven

IIRC, there should be one of those push caps that goes on the end of the rod. When I re-installed the lid on my car the cap would not stay on so I threaded the end of the rod and dbl nutted it B)

Yep, Silverblue has it right - there's a pushnut on the end...

Thanks for the help - I was not sure if a pushnut would handle the stress. I thought about drilling a hole and putting a key - but will try the pushnut first.
