FAQ: Modern 3 point seat belts
There are more than a few ways to skin this cat. Where to mount them, where to get the belts from, do you need reinforcement in the roof of an early hard top?
I personally have heard contrasting info, and it'd be nice to clear this one up.
For instance, this website details an extensive beefing-up of the roof panels: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/S.../seatbelt.html
But I read an article in one of the Mustang mags (last month's M&F I believe) that neglected to mention this at all.

Hi Blake,
I have a '66 fb and I'm interested in hearing from anyone who put a 3 point in and NOT use the roof. I'd prefer to anchor it right below and forward of the vents so the belt would be slightly below the occupants shoulders. A cleaner look, too.

I have not done it yet but plan to so I've collected some information that I will pass along.
First, some websites I've found that outline the process.
http://www.joesfalcon.com/sped2/shharnes.html
http://www.mustangandfordparts.com/projects/seatbelts/
http://www.rileysdm.com/mustang/albu...ls.php?album=6
http://www.midnightdsigns.com/james/3PointBelt.html
Second, sources for NEW seatbelts.
http://www.andoauto.com/retrofit.htm
http://161.58.79.191/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/...t.asp?E+scstore
http://stores.ebay.com/Fatrodders-Rod-Part...genameZl2QQtZkm
Since the belts are pretty much going to be a universal type thing anyway, it might be cheaper to research some of the Street Rod vendors for some in the correct length instead of buying them from a Mustang vendor. It depends on how much work you want to do yourself to save a buck or 2.

Does anyone know the length needed for the 3 point belts?
Which mounting point do you think is better, roof or door jamb, and why?

). I dont remember the length for sure, but I'm betting I put in 8 or 10 inchers from andoauto.I used the roof mount postion because it was available, and its a 4 door.
On our 87 GT vert of course uses the rear quarter trim area (door jamb area). Kids are always having to climb over those stinkers to get in and out. Kind of a tripping hazard for the rear occupants...
.If I was putting them into a coupe, I'd use the roof. Back seat occupants wouldn't be tripping face first into the asphalt. Plus, I'm use to newer cars having the shoulder harness up high off my nape....
just my pennies worth
I was thinking that ordering had a length requirement but now I see it doesn't. CRS kicking in.....
I did find this on the Andover website......
I'm assuming this will be dependant on how far back the belt is mounted on the roof point? (ie further back would require the 8 1/2" bracket)
I did find this on the Andover website......
The shoulder harness mounting anchor brackets are available with either a 2 1/2" or 8 1/2" bracket offset. The offset selected should be based on the distance between the harness mounting point and the seated occupant.

just below "on-line order form (edit: 1/2 way down the page)
" Shoulder harness sets includes an installed extension that lowers the point where the webbing feeds thru 8 1/2" from the upper shoulder harness mounting point to add to the ease of installation.A shorter 2 1/2" guide is also available if required."

i will eventually be adding a 2 point roll bar like a shelby and tieing it into the factory roof seatbelt mounts and using a 4 point shelby style harness. it won't have the added safety of the extra two down bars, but it will primarily a street car so i'm not too concerned about it.
