Thumbs up

Hi all--

My Gt is using about a quart of oil every 800-1000 miles, mostly when I travel at highway speed. I noticed yesterday that the oil pressure seems to drop a tad at highway speed--still not out of the "normal" zone on the oil pressure gauge. It hasn't done this before. Ideas?

iof the pressure drops at speed it may be that the oil is "aerating" or foaming. could also be that the oil is being stinked up past the rings which could be causing your oil loss, the oil loss could also be a leaky intake manifold end seal, these don't often have a noticeable puddle or drip in the garage floor either. a bad pcv valve could exhibit both of these sypmtoms as well. the only other explanation i can give for the oil pressure drop is temperature, it might not get warm enough in around town driving if the trips are fairly short but once you get up to speed on the highway the temp "normalizes" and the oil gets thinner thereby reducing pressure

B--

What could cause foaming oil? I did notice a bubble or two on the dipstick.

I know I have ring problems, but I'm holding off on a rebuild as long as I can. . . Which may be shorter than I'd like.

I've had Oil pressure drop at speed due to a failty bypass valve in the oil filter. Changed the NEW filter and all was well. Same experience with a friend's car, same solution. Both were Fram filters--

Hmm. That's interesting. I quit using Frams a while back. I ususally use the old Motorcraft FL1A's, but this time, as I had some credit at the parts house, I got a K&N.
